Seeing as though there is not enough accommodation for the 2010  FIFA World Cup, well in KwaZulu Natal at least, hospitality entrepreneurs could do well if they pursued something simple and innovate like 41 Berangan, a Kuala Lumpur based hotel. In an attempt to make the most of its limited urban space, the hotel added 2 extra rooms which were made from empty 20-foot shipping containers and placed them in a small courtyard. The nine other rooms are located within the hotel building itself. Inspired by nature, comfort and affordable convenience, the courtyard rooms have a garden view, an attached bathroom, internet access and air-conditioning. The guests also have access to a 24-hour reception and a continental breakfast.

So why not explore the option of adding extra rooms to an existing urban hotel, bed and breakfast or guest house by using empty shipping containers…
