South Africans supported Earth Hour by switching off a total of 4.7 million 60 watt light bulbs. According to Eskom this effort saved them about 400 megawatts of power this previous Saturday night. Globally the event was apparently a huge success with more than 1 billion people (over 25 time zones) taking part.

Let’s keep it up and switch off lights and appliances we don’t need! We don’t need a big event or applause to remind us to do our share in saving the environment.
