Local and International mountain bike enthusiasts will be descending on Pietermaritzburg (PMB) in 11 days time for the start of the 2009 Nissan UCI MTB World Cup season. This is the first event of this stature to be staged in Africa, which is a huge honour!  The triple status of the event will see Cross Country, Downhill and 4 Cross competitions being staged with some of the very best riders in the world competing.  The field is expected to be made up of more than 700 riders from 40 countries, which makes this an event not to be missed!

There will be a whole week of activity leading up to the World Cup competitions so that the local participants, officials and spectators can all benefit out of the event being awarded to the country by the UCI. Apart from the competitions taking place over the time period, Pietermaritzburg also has also excellent riding conditions, weather, accommodation and other facilities which offer teams and riders from around the world the opportunity to come to South Africa ahead of time to train and prepare for the season ahead.

The event takes place from the 10-12 April 2009 in Pietermaritzburg.
