Okay photos of our skiing trip as promised!

An Austrian friend of ours recommended a skiing village in Austria, called Ischgl - he said this was the place to go. As far as skiing villages go, it was quite a large village and there weren’t that many English tourists either so it seemed as though it was the local hot spot. It turned out to be a good choice!

After a good sleep, a cup of 5 Roses tea (which I hauled all the way from SA) and a hearty breakfast, we headed up in the Gondala.

We found some amazing powder.

Skiing in it brought out the giggle-monster in me. But this is not me. My technique is much smoother….obviously….

Shame Denz, is the powder to soft for you? Like I said, my technique is much smoother. Hee hee

At about 10.30am, you start to get hungry

At about 12.30pm, your stomach starts to stalk your liver and at that point you promptly get something to eat at a restaurant in the mountains.

At about 12.35pm you’ve smashed everything on your plate. See Exhibit A above.

Sometimes we were silly…

Or really energetic…

Or really silly…

And sometimes….surprise surprise, we were mature enough to organise ourselves for a self-timer shot. Hoorah!

The last day was a bit of a white out….which makes it very difficult to ski but terribly funny to watch.

When it was snowing, we sought shelter in our self-catering apartment where we loaded up with Milka Chocolate and Ritter. Lots of it.

Did you know that skiing is the only holiday where you can eat one Milka slab per day and drink one hot chocolate per day and actually lose weight? True.

On the odd occasion we hauled our granny-asses off to Apres-ski which was always entertaining. (our Austrian friend Pieter - in the middle)

All in all the holiday was….well, this photo says it all doesn’t it? Incredible.

So much to do, so little time. For the last 24 hours it doesn’t matter what I do, but all I can think about is the stupid bloody table decor for my wedding, I can’t seem to come up with a solution and until I do I will keep mulling it over and over and over and over

Friends. Those ones that are in your life forever and those ones that enter your life for a season only. And the wisdom to know the difference.

When the going gets tough, the media steps in. President Zuma’s State visit to the UK has been met with a frosty reception.

UK tabloids have had a field day calling Zuma a “sex-obsessed bigot” and a “vile buffoon” with accompanying pictures of him in traditional Zulu attire. With continued rumblings on breaches of royal etiquette, and mention of an “unusual double handshake“, the publication complained that the men in the Zuma entourage had wandered around Buckingham Palace wearing “football-style scarves in the South African colours over their suits, the women chatted noisily on their mobile phones and used them to take pictures of the furnishings”. Now I find this quite amusing I can picture the scene…………

But it seems that the South African media has taken exception to the barrage of insults and blatant attacks on the President’s lifestyle.

Business Day’s Peter Bruce’s found it “appalling” to watch Zuma’s reception from sections of the British media.

“The British body politic is without peer when it comes to sex scandals and moral or financial hypocrisy and the sight of leading British newspapers having a go at Zuma for his lapses of virtue is sickening.”

Ok, now I like this one-

Bruce said life in SA under Zuma was “trust us, a lot better than in the UK” and that even if he was imperfect or may be a lousy leader, “he’s our lousy leader. We’ll deal with him. When UK politicians visit here we’ll be sure to treat them with respect.”

That is precisely it, although Zuma is far from perfect and has a lifestyle that will make Tiger Woods blush, he is our President and although some of the comments are valid, I find it heartwarming that South Africa has united to support our President who is so out of his element right now…ag shame man.

In conclusion: What this country needs, is a cause/event/ leader - whichever comes first- that would inspire us to unite, black, white, young and old, something that makes us proud to be South African. I suppose when one of us gets “Hauled over the coals” like that and in a foreign country nogal, our protective instincts kick in and we become a supportive nation. Why can we not be a supportive nation all the time? That’s something to bear in mind if we ever want this country to progress to the next level, stop the nitpicking amongst ourselves and look at the country and its people as a whole.

When it comes to greening our environment (or any other global problem for that matter) we usually wait for someone else to take the initiative or to make the problem go away, but it is up to each one of us to take responsibility and do our bit for the environment.

Did you know?

Microwave meals, take-aways and pre-packaged fruit and veggies are weighing heavily on the environment (ouch!). While we indulge in this rushed lifestyle of ours, landfill space is running out. Have you ever stopped to think where the empty packaging goes? No, not to Waste Heaven. Waste Plan, a Cape Town-based waste management company has made it their mission to provide solutions in the form of residential, industrial, events, medical and wine farm recycling. Go check it out.

Your computer monitor uses less energy when displaying a black screen. You can go one step further by changing your browser to Blackle - it’s basically Google with a black background.

Now you know.

64 matches.
A global television audience of 26 billion viewers.
48 million proud Bafana Bafana supporters.

We’re talking serious soccer. World Cup stuff.

Today, 2 March 2010 is Fly the Flag Day. After reading this I must admit I was a bit confused as to what exactly fly the flag means. It all seems very patriotic and I could picture planes with humongous SA flags trailing behind them. Not quite. It simply means show the flag off in any way you possibly can.

Why? Today marks 100 days to the World Cup.

There are many ways in which you can show your support and enthusiasm as this calls for some serious celebration:

Wear your Bafana shirt

Blow your vuvuzela

Sing or whistle the anthem

Have a braai

Wag the flag

Do the diski dance - this is how:

MultiChoice is considering broadcasting pornography and the possibility of creating new sex channels on DStv’s satellite pay-TV service.

They are using e-mails for market research purposes to test the interest in various broadcasting options, such as the broadcasting of “mixed pornography” (hardcore porn between 21:00 and 05:00 and soft porn between 05:00 and 21:00), hardcore porn 24 hours per day, or soft porn 24 hours per day on DStv.

Do you think the general South African populace is equipped to deal with this kind er….. selection? Do you think it will be like pouring fuel on the fire of sexual abuse and exploitation already running rampant in our country. Or do you think that we are responsible enough to make our own decisions if given the opportunity.

Have your say!
