Morne for President
Well done to the Springboks for winning the British and Irish Lions Tour, with their 2nd consecutive victory.
What a game! From start to finish, what with Schalk Burger being sent off in the first five minutes for gouging the eyes of a lions player (sho! bad move bru), followed closely by a penalty to the Lions. Things were not looking good for the boys, the words on all our lips were ‘What are you doing’ we were seeing a completely different team to the one we saw last week in Durban. My first thought was, ‘oh well it’s going to be an exciting final then, as we are definitely not looking like winning this game”.
The second half came and everything changed. The lions were now the ones making the handling errors and giving away penalties and South Africa was taking full advantage by scoring 2 tries, one by Bryan Habana and the other by Jaque Fourie. Many say that the uncontested scrum was one of the things that turned the game as this was our achillies heel throughout the first half, so thanks to injury to both props of the lions team, the problem was eliminated. The only downside to the second half was Ruan Pienaar and Francois Steyn missing four out of five kicks, eventually the crowd were ‘gat vol’and started chanting for Ruan to be replaced by the Lofters golden Boy, Morne Stein. Morne did not disappoint with his final penalty in the 80th min of the game to take us from a draw to a 28-25 win. For such a youngster and only his second cap, he coped extremely well under the stress.
Which is more than I say for myself!
